Tips to remember while in the exam

What to look for in Part 2 - Open Cloze:

- First pay attention to the title then the whole text, so that you understand its overall meaning.
- Read the whole text at least 3 times.
- Decide whether the gap should take:
adjective, noun, verb, articles, adverbs, prepositions, demonstratives, relative pronouns, auxiliary verbs, passives, modal verbs, conditional, linking devices, conjunctives, extreme adjectives, et cetera.
- Also see if the word needs to be in a positive/negative form, singular/plural, active/passive, et cetera.
- Check the form of speech missing in the gap.
- Follow the following steps:
Focus on                (before) ________paragraph_________ (after)
(before) ______whole sentence______ (after)
(before) ___________gap___________ (after)
(word(s) before) ____gap____ (word(s) after)
- Once the gap is filled with your chosen word, check again (word(s) before) __gap__ (word(s) after) to make sure it sounds right in context.
- Make sure to write the word in the gap and check to make sure that the sentence sounds and feels good with the word you use.
- To get full marks, the word must be spelt correctly so check spelling.
- Use CAPITAL letters when writing in your answers where required.
- Use one box for each CAPITAL letter.
- Use BIGGER capital letters for proper nouns, etc.
- A hyphen or an apostrophe takes a box of its own.
- Don’t leave any blank spaces.
- Make a good educated guess at least!

N.B.: Check grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
