Preparation before the exam
- Read, and reread, as many different types of English reading texts as you can. Time yourself and see how long it takes to read the text in question.
- Remember to read it as if it were fun and enjoyable as well as if you were going to learn something new and important from it.
- Try to retain as much as possible from what you read and where you read it from in the text.
- The FCE is not a test of memory but this technique will help you to be able to refer back to different sections or extracts in the text and to be able to recall certain information and its whereabouts in the text.
- Extracts/texts in the FCE exam include the following:
fiction/novel extracts
magazine articles
reports
advertisements
daily newspapers
correspondence
information (i.e. manuals, guides, brochures, etc.)
